Four Aston Villa players that Arsenal should try to sign

Image
By Oli Dickson Jefford Arsenal play Aston Villa tonight as the Gunners look to maintain their unbeaten start to the Premier League season. Mikel Arteta’s side are the only team to win every match so far and are significant favourites against a stuttering Villa side. Villa have won only one match so far, losing the other three, and have been on a poor run of form across this season and last. However, Steven Gerrard’s squad features a significant number of quality players - some of whom have been linked to Arsenal in the past. Here are four players that Arsenal could consider  poaching from Villa Park  in the near future. Tyrone Mings A key talking point this season has been Tyrone Mings’ rather unceremonious dumping as Villa captain. The England international has also been benched a couple of times by Gerrard, with rumours circulating that all is not well between the two. How can Arsenal strengthen their midfield this summer By Tom Masters After a disappointing end to the season which saw Arsenal miss out on Champions League football at the expense of rivals Tottenham Hotspur, it is time for attentions to turn to next season, with Mikel Arteta in the market for a whole host of signings to improve his side this summer.  One of the main areas he will be looking to improve is the midfield, which has failed to deliver what Gunners fans wanted this season and was a large contributing factor to falling at the end of the season and missing out on Champions League action.  Thomas Partey has shown he is the player that Arsenal thought they had signed from Atletico Madrid, but he has had his fair share of injuries, and the likes of Albert Sambi Lokonga and Granit Xhaka have not managed to deliver the consistency that Arsenal need.  Partey’s place in the Arsenal midfield is not under threat, as when he is fit, he is among the best midfielders in the ...

With Xhaka set to tip the wrong side of 30 later this year, and young players needed to continue Arteta’s long-term re-build, it’s hard to see he would halt another Roma advance. So if, unlike last summer, the two clubs manage to agree a fee and Xhaka moves on, where can Arsenal strengthen their midfield to fill the gap Xhaka going to Roma would leave? Douglas Luiz A target that emerged in the gossip columns in the last week of January 2021, Douglas Luiz has been on the Arsenal radar for a number of years. The 23-year-old deep lying holding midfielder has thrived in the Premier League since his move to Aston Villa in 201...
