Are Arsenal ready to go on another unbeaten run after losing to Liverpool

I don’t care who the opposition have been, Arsenal’s ten-game unbeaten run isn’t something to be sniffed at.
The Gunners may have seen that run come to an end in Saturday’s 4-0 loss against Liverpool, but there is fresh optimism in North London.
Mikel Arteta’s side look as if they could challenge for Europe this season, especially with there being no outstanding candidate for fourth place.

Should Arsenal fans be concerned?

Arsenal have a poor record of responding to defeat.
This isn’t just an issue with Arteta. For years now, it has felt like losses can avalanche at The Emirates.
Arsenal’s last winning run ended at the start of this season and was followed by three consecutive defeats.
The worry is that this defeat could see a return to the poor performances and lack of direction that has come to characterise much of the Spaniards time as manager.
Fortunately, Newcastle are next up in Saturday’s early kick-off.
Of course, there are no easy games in the Premier League but there are few teams in worse form than the Magpies at the moment.
But they’re also a bit of an unknown now that Eddie Howe has taken charge in the north-east.
Another concern for Gunners fans should be the prospect of a relatively tricky festive period that will see us take on Manchester United, who no doubt will be in great form after the arrival of their new manager, and West Ham, who are having one of their best seasons in the Premier League.
Wolves, Leeds, Southampton and Everton are all difficult games to win as well.

Reasons to be optimistic

Weirdly, the game changed during a moment in the dugout rather than on the pitch.
Up until Arteta’s clash with Jürgen Klopp, the two sides had looked evenly matched.
In fact, Arsenal had offered a little bit more in the future despite not having many clear-cut chances.
Our midfield looked solid again, and our new signings shone, especially Aaron Ramsdale.
The English goalkeeper looks like he’s starting to turn good form into permanent class, putting in top performance after top performance.
So despite the scoreline, there are reasons to be optimistic.
Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka showed their class throughout, and it felt like Jack Wilshere was right when he said this side is a team in transition.
It’s beginning to look like Arteta’s team are a few years and one or two top signings away from challenging at the top of the table.

Are Arsenal ready to put another run together?

As optimistic as I am about the direction of the starting 11 at the moment, I can’t help but feel like December will be a difficult month for the Gunners.
With injuries piling up, a number of tricky games and a young squad, the Gunners would be excused for dropping a few points in the build-up to Christmas.
The important thing is that the team doesn’t capitulate.
The next game against Newcastle will be crucial.
Defeat could suggest that Arsenal didn’t improve that much after all and are still the same unreliable and defensively weak team they’ve been for over a decade.
But victory and a quick return to winning ways will suggest that last week’s loss against a brilliant Liverpool was just that, a loss against a brilliant Liverpool team.
As the season progresses, Arsenal will need to produce a few more winning runs if they’re going to challenge for Europe.
The sooner they can get started, the better.
