Arsenal's 2022 Wish List
Arsenal's 2022 Wish List
By Jonny Bray
It has been a mixed year for Arsenal.
The club has experienced ups and downs since the start of 2021 but tomorrow is the start of a new year, so it is time to look at Arsenal's 2022 wish list.
Here's what Gunners fans around the world will be hoping to see during the next 12 months.
Champions League Qualification
If Arsenal want to take the next step under Mikel Arteta, then the club needs to qualify for the Champions League in 2022.
Qualification would be a huge help and a significant morale boost both on and off the pitch, so it is key to the next stage of this squad's development that we take the opportunity in front of us and qualify for Europe's best competition.
We haven't qualified since the 2016/17 season when we were eliminated at the Round of 16 stage. Qualification would undoubtedly get any Arteta doubters back on his side, as it would show that the club is moving in a positive direction under his stewardship.
A trophy
It almost goes without saying, but Arsenal fans want to see their side pick up silverware.
This isn't Tottenham, winning trophies is engrained in the club's tradition, and the fans deserve to be rewarded after sticking with Arteta through dark times.
It is unlikely we'll be winning the league anytime soon, considering the strength of the opposition Arsenal have had to face this season.
It's not mathematically impossible. It's just unlikely at this point in time. But we have a good chance of winning this season's League Cup or FA Cup.
Sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, Dominic Calvert-Lewin is the perfect striker for Arsenal.
He's a versatile player with numerous strengths; he fits the profile of the type of player Arsenal want to sign at the moment, and he's ready to take the next step.
He fits the profile in the sense that he is young, English, has room to improve but has shown he has exceptional potential.
Calvert-Lewin would be an ideal replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who looks sure to be on his way out of the club.
So we could see the England international in the red and white of Arsenal sooner rather than later.
Beat Tottenham on the 16th January
Arsenal can expect a dramatic start to 2022.
Just three weeks from the start of the year, the Gunners take on their biggest rivals at their new home.
The game will not only be another edition of the Premier League's greatest derby, but it'll also be crucial in the race for Champions League football next season.
Conte to fail
I can't lie, Antonio Conte's move to Tottenham has me panicking a little bit.
It's arguably the first time in that club's history that it has had one of the world's best managers in their prime at the helm.
In short, Conte is a genius, and if he can get Spurs firing on all cylinders, then I do not doubt that he'll dramatically improve their team.
His arrival also gives Spurs fans hope that Harry Kane might stay.
Hopefully, 2022 will be the year where we see Conte capitulate and Kane depart as Spurs continue their fall from grace post-Pochettino.
