Player Profile: Jordi Osei-Tutu
By Jonny Bray
At just 22 years old, Jordi Osei-Tutu has already experienced a lot in the world of football.
He's played for two of England's biggest clubs, perhaps the biggest club in Wales and he's played in Europe.
Despite being at the club since 2017, he's yet to make his Arsenal first-team debut but that hasn't stopped the youngster from having an exciting career to date.
The full-back from Slough is a London boy through and through and will surely have a big career ahead of him even if it isn't at The Emirates.
So, what do you need to know about Arsenal academy graduate Jordi Osei-Tutu?
What has his career been like so far?
Osei-Tutu's career really got going while on loan at second division German club VfL Bochum 1848 during the 2019-20 season.
During his time in Germany, the right-back proved that he has the ability needed to make it in the professional game, even if the level he would be playing at wasn't initially clear.
He made 21 appearances for the German side, scoring five goals, an excellent return from right-back.
He also provided three assists, showing that he offers plenty going forward despite being a defender.
Osei-Tutu's stock went up significantly while on loan in the German second tier, and he was rewarded with a far more glamorous loan move during the 2020-21 season.
He spent the season at Cardiff City and started well, making a total of seven appearances.
Things went downhill for him from there, though, and the defender ended up missing much of the season following a hamstring injury in mid-October.
It was a real shame for him after a decent start in the Championship and it definitely feels like that injury has knocked the youngster's confidence.
It was a similar story at Nottingham Forest, where his loan was terminated earlier this month following a string of injuries.
What can he do in the future?
There is no doubt that Osei-Tutu has plenty of potential and, considering his age, he has a lot of time to develop.
But sadly, I think it's unlikely the right-back will break into the Arsenal first team.
It's not that he's necessarily a bad player, it's just that Mikel Arteta is unlikely to be able to give him the minutes necessary for Osei-Tutu to improve.
Unfortunately, the right-back doesn't have a lot of momentum at the moment and so is unlikely to secure a move to another Premier League club.
It may be a good idea to send him out on loan again when he recovers from these injuries so that he can secure a bigger move when the time is right.
But if I were Osei-Tutu, I would leave north London now.
He's approaching a critical stage in his development as a player and could still secure a move to a well-run Championship club.
This would guarantee him more minutes on the pitch and improve him significantly as a player.
And who knows, maybe he could return to Arsenal in the future, ready to make an impact on the first team.
