Three Brentford players Mikel Arteta should try to sign
By Tom Masters
Arsenal take on Brentford this week as the business end of the Premier League approaches.
The Gunners will hope to earn three valuable points as they look to return to Champions League action after five seasons out of the competition.
Ahead of their clash with the Bees at the Emirates Stadium, we look at three Bees players who Mikel Arteta should look to sign in the summer.
Ivan Toney
The Gunners have not kept it secret that they are in the hunt for at least one striker this summer after Pierre Emerick Aubameyang’s departure to FC Barcelona in January.
The Gabonese forward leaving has left Arteta with just two recognised strikers in the squad in Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah; Lacazette’s contract comes to an end this summer, meaning it is entirely possible that Arsenal will be left with just Nketiah to lead their line.
Toney is Brentford’s top scorer this season with six goals and Arteta is known to be an admirer of the 25-year-old.
Thomas Frank would likely do everything he can to keep hold of Toney, but the allure of Arsenal and likely European football might make his leading goal scorer force a transfer.
Frank Onyeka
Arsenal are known to be in the market for a holding midfielder as well as a striker and Onyeka has been an important member of this Brentford side.
His all-round game could certainly benefit Arteta and the Gunners, and alongside Thomas Partey he could fit the bill as a second ball winning midfielder, further protecting the defence.
He is known to be one of the quicker defensive midfielders in the Premier League, something which could see him help Arsenal transfer from defence to attack quickly while also allowing him to get back and prevent counter attacks.
Christian Nørgaard
A similar position to Onyeka, but Nørgaard’s role as a deep lying playmaker is something that Arsenal have been missing for a while.
Nørgaard is someone who has impressed this season for Brentford, and his ability to advance attacks is something that the Gunners desperately need.
He is another that Frank won’t want to see the back of though, so the Dane may need to have an enticing offer to let his compatriot leave.
