Four Southampton players who Arsenal should try to sign
Four Southampton players who Arsenal should try to sign
Southampton may be coming off the back of a 6-0 defeat at the hands of Chelsea, but that doesn't mean Ralph Hasenhüttl's squad is devoid of talented players.
The Saints have proven that they are a hotbed of young talent for several years now, helping to develop elite European stars such as Virgil van Dijk.
Hasenhüttl's side currently sit in 14th after a disappointing run of form, and next up is Mikel Arteta's Arsenal.
So with that in mind, there is no better time to take a look at the four Southampton players Arsenal should try to sign this summer.
James Ward-Prowse
James Ward-Prowse is the least surprising name on this list.
The midfielder has been a standout star for the Saints since his progression into the first team back in 2011.
The Southampton academy graduate has been praised for his work rate and talent on the ball while also making set-pieces his point of difference.
Arsenal may be strong in midfield, but Ward-Prowse would offer Arteta something completely different.
He would not only offer a threat from set-pieces but would also be a far more aggressive, some would say dirty, option in midfield.
We have some brilliant footballers in that area of the pitch, but Arsenal fans may feel that Ward-Prowse could be the final piece of the puzzle.
Kyle Walker-Peters
He may be a former Tottenham Hotspur player, but Kyle Walker-Peters has proven a lot of people wrong during his time at Southampton.
Deemed as surplus to requirements by José Mourinho, few football fans expected the right-back to reach the heights he has.
Since then, he has played for England and starred for Southampton, while in stark contrast, Spurs have struggled to settle on a long term right-back.
He may not walk straight into Arsenal's first team, but recent weeks have proven that the Gunners are desperate for more cover at full-back.
Armando Broja
Fine, he may be a Chelsea loanee, but Armando Broja has been one of Southampton's best players this season.
The 20-year-old forward has the skill and the attitude needed to make it at the very highest level.
His record of six league goals in 27 Premier League appearances is impressive for such a young player, and as a result, he has been linked with several top sides ahead of the summer transfer window.
Arsenal will have a fight on their hands to secure the Albanian forward's signature, but if they do, it would go a long way to solving the problems the Gunners have up front.
Mohammed Salisu
Mohammed Salisu had an absolute shocker against Chelsea and was at fault for more than one of the goals his side conceded.
It was a disappointing day for an otherwise consistent performer.
Since arriving at Saint Mary's Stadium, he has brought something different to Hasenhüttl's defence, providing crucial pace in an otherwise slow back line.
His reward this season has been 29 appearances in the league, meaning he has only missed two games all campaign.
The Ghanaian international has a bright future ahead of him despite Saturday's disastrous result.
