Arsenal's top five goals of the season

Arsenal's top five goals of the season

By Jonny Bray
Arsenal have scored some great goals this season.
Spearheaded by the youthful energy of Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe and Martin Ødegaard, Mikel Arteta's side have played some really exciting stuff over the last 12 months.
But the wealth of options has made picking Arsenal's goal of the season a difficult task, with several strikes standing out over the season.
So, with the final game of the campaign just days away, what better time to look at Arsenal's top five goals of the season?

5) Gabriel Martinelli v Newcastle

Gabriel Martinelli's delightful volley wrapped up a 2-0 win at the Emirates back in November.
The result closed the gap with West Ham in fourth, but it also gave us one of the goals of the season.
Takehiro Tomiyasu started things off, showing his attacking class with a lofted pass that set Martinelli through on goal.
The Brazillian forward still had a lot to do, approaching the goal at break-neck speed on a tight angle.
But Martinelli did not panic, lobbing the keeper with a perfectly weighted finish that nestled into the left corner of the net.
It was a unique goal that very few players could have scored.

4) Martin Ødegaard v Burnley

Few Arsenal players ooze class like Martin Ødegaard.
And Gunners fans saw another snippet of what the Norwegian attacking midfielder is capable of in the 1-0 win against Burnley.
Sure, the goal was important, but it will live long in the memory of Arsenal fans for its quality more than anything else.
Ødegaard curled the ball into the top left corner after Ashley Westwood had clipped Saka on the edge of the area.
It was early in the season, but in hindsight, those two extra points could prove crucial in the race for the top four.

3) Eddie Nketiah v AFC Wimbledon

Eddie Nketiah loves a cheeky back-heel finish.
He's done it twice this season, with the other coming in the League Cup against Sunderland.
But the better of the two came in an earlier round against AFC Wimbledon.
The ball was driven into the box at an alarming speed, but Nketiah did not panic.
He had the presence of mind to flick the ball towards the bottom left corner, much to the delight of the Gunners fans.

2) Granit Xhaka v Manchester United

Granit Xhaka's screamer against Manchester United was absolutely stunning.
The Swiss superman lashed home from 25 yards with 20 minutes remaining to wrap up a 3-1 win at the Emirates.
The Gunners came into the game on an upswing after ending a run of three successive defeats with a win against Chelsea but finished it in the Champions League places, having leapfrogged Tottenham into fourth.

1) Alexandre Lacazette

Alexandre Lacazette's goal against Southampton was one of the best team goals ever scored at the Emirates.
It had everything.
Superb build-up play, a fantastic cross from Bukayo Saka and a thunderous finish from the Frenchman.
Without a doubt, Lacazette's goal was the best from an Arsenal player this season.
