Four Tottenham players Arsenal should try to sign
Four Tottenham players Arsenal should try to sign
Once again Arsenal and Tottenham are battling it out for fourth place in the Premier League with the juicy carrot of Champions League football next season on offer.
The Gunners hold the edge and currently sit fourth with a four-point buffer ahead of Spurs in fifth, but it could all change with Thursday’s North London derby at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Antonio Conte’s side may be lagging behind at this stage but their hopes of playing top tier European football got a shot in the arm when they held quadruple-chasing Liverpool to a 1-1 draw over the weekend.
Both sides have several stars that could make the controversial move across North London but here we take a look at four Spurs players that would be good signings for Arsenal.
Harry Kane
Once a Gooner, always a Gooner?
Everyone has seen that famous picture of England’s captain draped in an Arsenal shirt as a young child and who is to say he would not flourish if he wore it again for real.
It worked out for Sol Campbell and the new generation of football fans need a totem figure to cross the divide.
Heung-min Son
The best way to weaken a rival is to buy their best players, just ask the Manchester clubs.
And Korean superstar Heung-min Son is undoubtedly a world class operator who would slot into virtually every starting XI in football.
The 29-year-old has scored 20 goals and laid on eight assists in 32 Premier League appearances this season.
Son is adept on the wing and crucially, for Arsenal, is no stranger to playing through the middle which would be a great option for Mikel Arteta.
However, prising him away from Spurs would take an obscene fee and some skilful negotiation of the highest order given Daniel Levy drives a hard bargain but stranger things have happened.
Cristian Romero
Centre-back has long been a problem position at the Emirates.
Key defenders seem to come and go in the red shirt but one man who has taken to the Premier League like a duck to water is Argentinian centre-half Cristian Romero.
The Spurs ace could form a partnership to be feared with fellow South American Gabriel if the Gunners were somehow able to lure him to the club.
With Romero only having recently joined from Atalanta, it may be tough to get him on the move again but having said that, he would not be going far…
Ryan Sessegnon
Signing Ryan Sessegnon could be a shrewd move for Arsenal with the young left-back able to provide cover for injury-prone Kieran Tierney.
Sessegnon has not had much of a go at Spurs but is showing he still has what it takes with Sergio Reguilon ruled out.
At 21 he is still incredibly young and could have great sell-on value if things didn’t work out.
