Is Bukayo Saka England's best young player?
By Jonny Bray
In a short amount of time, Bukayo Saka has cemented his place as one of England's star players.
Many neutrals believe he should be starting ahead of Manchester City's Raheem Sterling, and he has shown that he can deliver both at club level and on the international stage.
He already has 17 England caps at the tender age of 20 and will surely become a legend for the Three Lions.
However, during a new 'golden generation of young English talent, is he England's best young player?
Bukayo Saka
After breaking into the Arsenal side, Saka showed his class during last summer's European Championships.
He was England's best player at the tournament and was a big reason why the Three Lions were able to reach the final.
His versatility is unreal, playing in several positions across the pitch since making his debut, and his work rate has endeared him to Arsenal and England fans.
Phil Foden
For years, people have been asking when Phil Foden will get a chance to cement his place in the Manchester City starting eleven.
But this season, the Stockport-born superstar has finally shown that he is more than just hype.
He has scored nine goals and registered five assists in just 28 Premier League appearances, dazzling with his delightful skill and dribbling ability along the way.
For years he has been highlighted as England's most exciting young player, and over the last 12 months, he has proven why.
Jude Bellingham
Jude Bellingham has everything you would want in a midfield.
He has pace, power, precision and plenty of skill to go with it.
Since joining Borussia Dortmund from Birmingham City, the 18-year-old has gone from strength to strength.
In 32 Bundesliga appearances, he has scored three goals and registered nine assists.
And on the international stage, he has impressed every time he has thrown on the famous white jersey.
Harvey Elliott
Harvey Elliott might be the most underrated of England's young stars.
That is partly due to a series of unfortunate injuries that have hampered his development.
But, at 19-years-old, he is still more than capable of fulfilling his potential.
The right-winger turned attacking midfielder made impactful appearances in Liverpool's first four games of the 2021/22 season, including a full 90 minutes in a 1-1 draw against Chelsea.
But an ankle injury meant that he was unavailable for selection until the start of February.
He's only started one game since his return, but with a new season on the horizon, he has the ability needed to sneak into Gareth Southgate's England squad for Qatar.
Conclusion
Sadly, Foden is a generational talent.
It will take a lot for any young player to displace him as England's most exciting prospect.
Saka has come close, and it will be a pleasure to see the two stars represent England together for years to come.
But Foden is comfortably England's best young player, and there is no shame in Saka coming in second to him.
