Does a successful transfer window put more pressure on Mikel Arteta next season?

Arsenal have enjoyed a strong start to this summer's transfer window.
The Gunners have brought in a lethal finisher in Gabriel Jesus, a creative midfielder in Portuguese star Fábio Vieira, an exciting young prospect in the form of Brazillian winger Marquinhos, plus USA international 'keeper Matt Turner.
Mikel Arteta's side are still being linked with new players every day, and it is unlikely that the club will go the rest of the summer without signing another star.
The Gunners have been linked with Lucas Paquetá and N'Golo Kanté in recent days, with the Gunners also reportedly keen on Raphinha and Lisandro Martínez.
But does a successful transfer window put more pressure on Mikel Arteta next season?

It does

Certainly, in the eye of the fans, a successful transfer window will put more pressure on Mikel Arteta next season.
The Spaniard has received more financial backing than Arsène Wenger and Unai Emery in seasons gone by.
For years, people have been insisting that Gunners fans need to trust the process.
However, a successful summer window will leave Arteta with no more excuses if the season starts poorly.
After the amount of money that has been spent over the last two summer transfer windows, failure to kick on would be a real indictment of Arteta's ability as a manager.

It doesn't

Firstly, regardless of whether the window was a successful one or not, the start of this season is crucial for Arteta.
He is already under huge pressure after missing out on Champions League football last season.
The Gunners were in the driving seat heading into the last few months of the season and were being spoken about as one of the year's success stories.
However, a weak squad and some poorly timed injuries left Arteta with a lack of depth and quality during the run-in.
Even a poor window would still leave Arteta under pressure.
Furthermore, as good as the window has been by Arsenal's standards, every other club in the top six has also looked to strengthen.
Manchester City and Liverpool are already arguably stronger than they were last season.
Chelsea have secured the signing of Raheem Sterling and look certain to recruit several more stars before the summer ends, and Manchester United are bound to have a big signing up their sleeve.
Tottenham Hotspur have also had a great summer, bringing in some exciting players such as Yves Bissouma and Richarlison who compliment Antonio Conte's system.

Conclusion

A successful transfer window has definitely put more pressure on Mikel Arteta ahead of next season.
He was already under plenty after the disastrous end to last season.
Being backed in the transfer market will only increase the expectations of fans at a time when every top-six side is getting stronger. The target has to be top four next season, and if Arteta fails, it is hard to see a world where he doesn't lose his job.
