Arsenal’s best and worst moments of the season  By James Reid The 2021/22 season has been a real rollercoaster for Arsenal, with plenty of highs and lows.  A disastrous start was turned around by Mikel Arteta’s youthful side and it looked like a top-four finish was on the cards despite a difficult January and April.  However, crushing defeats to Spurs and Newcastle put a return to the Champions League out of sight for another season.   With the dust beginning to settle on the season, we took a look at some of the best and worst moments.  Best: Chelsea 2 - 4 Arsenal The Gunners came into this game off the back of three defeats to Crystal Palace, Brighton, and Southampton.  The results, and the manner of the losses, looked to have derailed Arsenal’s push for the top four as what should have been nine points turned into zero.  Mikel Arteta’s men arrived at Stamford Bridge knowing that nothing but a win would do, never an easy feat away at Chelsea.  B...

Four Newcastle players Arsenal should try to sign  By James Reid Arsenal’s hunt for the top four will look to get back on track on Monday, as the Gunners travel north to take on Newcastle United. The Magpies have had a strong second half of the season under the guidance of Eddie Howe, alongside the addition of some new signings in January following October's takeover. The 22-year-old has been on the radar of several clubs from a young age, but after failing to break into  Mikel Arteta’s first-team plans, it looks as if this will be the window where he finally departs   North London. The Gunners can get good money for the forward, and several clubs have made it abundantly clear that they’re keen on signing him. Crystal Palace, Leeds United and Newcastle United are the current front-runners for Nketiah’s signature. Some have called for him to stay, but after his performance in Arsenal’s loss against Nottingham Forest, I think it’s become clear that he isn’t up to the standard needed to play regularly at Arsenal. Arsenal v Newcastle Review Arsenal put in another defensively sound and competent performance on Saturday against Newcastle. It’s the type of performance we’re getting used to under Mikel Arteta, with the Spaniard proving time and time again that he knows how to win games against the sides outside the top six. Goals from Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli put the Geordies to the sword, but it was the defence who will take the plaudits after keeping an attacking Newcastle side out for 90 minutes. The Gunners had 24 shots on goals, so they will be looking to be more lethal in that area moving forward, but it’s hard to complain after bouncing back so quickly from the loss against Liverpool last time out.
