Five Leicester City players that Arsenal should try to sign
By Oli Dickson Jefford
After two strong campaigns in a row, Leicester City have largely struggled at times this season.
Brendan Rodgers’ side sit 12th in the table and the prospect of European football looks unlikely, with a 12-point gap between them and the likes of Tottenham and West Ham.
With next season looking like it will be a quiet one, several of the Foxes’ star players may look for pastures new when the summer transfer window opens.
Arsenal have been linked to several Leicester players in the past, and could well be again this summer if some of their players are keen to leave.
Here are our picks for five Leicester players Arsenal should try to sign this summer.
Youri Tielemans
Tielemans has been a little off the boil this campaign, but was one of Leicester’s standout performers last season and was their FA Cup final hero with the sole goal in the win against Chelsea at Wembley.
The Belgian’s quality is undeniable and he has been linked to Arsenal fairly recently, as well as other Premier League clubs such as Manchester United and several Serie A sides.
He would fit well with the attacking dynamic that is currently at the forefront of Arsenal’s team, though his defensive qualities are underrated and would help deal with the Gunners’ issue in the holding midfield area.
James Maddison
Maddison is another player Arsenal have been linked to in the past, with the Gunners being the leading contenders in the past to prize the midfielder away from the King Power Stadium.
Much like Tielemans, Maddison would help address the holding midfielder issue and the England international is incredibly strong when attacking.
A strong free-kick taker and someone with growing experience in the Premier League, he could be a good signing for Arsenal.
Harvey Barnes
Harvey Barnes is Leicester-made, having come through the youth setup to become one of Rodger’s key players in recent years.
He has made over 130 appearances for the club and has so far been loyal to the club, but rumours of a move have circulated in the past and Arsenal are the kind of club that would be interested.
Barnes is still fairly young and there’s a sense there’s still a lot more to come from him, with his attacking flair something that would suit Mikel Arteta’s style well.
Jannik Vestergaard
Though Leicester haven’t been quite as solid defensively this season, Denmark international Jannik Vestergaard has been as solid as ever at the back.
The defender is slightly older than the rest of the players mentioned so far with his 30th birthday approaching, though he is still in good form and would bring a lot of experience to the Arsenal dressing room.
He only joined Leicester from Southampton last summer, though he would be a strong option to compete alongside the likes of Gabriel and Ben White next season.
Wesley Fofana
If Arsenal wanted to continue to build a younger squad, then Fofana would be a strong choice in terms of boosting their defence.
The Frenchman has been absent after breaking his leg pre-season and it this that many people believe has been key to the Foxes' stagnating form throughout this campaign.
Though he will be a little rusty, Fofana is only 21 and has bags of potential. He would be the kind of signing that Arteta would relish.
