Who do Arsenal need to sell this summer?

By Jonny Bray
While some players made a significant impact at Arsenal last season, others let the club down big time during the run-in.
The 2022/23 campaign will be a decisive one for Mikel Arteta, with the Spaniard on thin ice after failing to qualify for the Champions League last term.
The summer transfer window will be crucial to his chances of keeping his job and to Arsenal's chances of playing in Europe's elite competition anytime soon.
And with that in mind, it is time to take a look at the players Arsenal need to sell this summer.

Bernd Leno

Aaron Ramsdale has come out of nowhere and made a lot of pundits look incredibly silly.
Few expected him to impress as he did last season and now that he has established himself as the club's first choice, there is little use left for Germany's Bernd Leno.
That may not be such a bad thing.
He's an excellent second choice to have but Gunners fans know he lacks commitment to the cause after his behaviour last summer.
The club can still get a decent fee for Leno and if they move to get him out of the club this summer, then it could boost Arteta's transfer war chest.

Héctor Bellerín

Much like Leno, Bellerín is surplus to requirements after the arrival of a better player last summer.
Takehiro Tomiyasu has made a huge impact since he arrived in north London, and despite impressing on loan at Real Betis, Bellerín now has no long-term future in the Arsenal starting eleven.
He has had an opportunity to return to his boyhood club but, at the moment, the Spanish right-back's future remains unclear.
But one thing is for sure.
The Gunners need to capitalise on his inflated market value after a successful spell on loan in LaLiga.

Granit Xhaka

It feels like Gunners fans have been asking Arsenal to sell the Swiss star every summer since he arrived at the club.
He has the commitment and he has the hunger to excel at Arsenal but Arteta can not rely on him to stay on the pitch or to avoid making catastrophic errors.
Xhaka is another example of a big earner that the club can cash in on this summer.
This is probably the club's last chance to get some of his initial transfer fee back and with so much work needed on the Arsenal squad, there are very few reasons to keep him.

Nicolas Pepe

Few players have disappointed in north London quite like Nicolas Pépé.
Despite his heroics in France and his talismanic performances on international duty, the Côte d'Ivoire star just has not settled at The Emirates.
Much like Xhaka, Bellerin and Leno, this summer could be our last chance to cash in on the winger.
And with Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Emile Smith-Rowe all excelling in the wide areas of the pitch, it isn't easy to see where Pépé fits into Arteta's plans next season.
He has been at the club for three years now, and it feels like if it were going to work out, then it already would have.So what better time to try and get some of the £72 million we paid Lille for his services back?
