The winners and losers of the summer transfer window

Image
The winners and losers of the summer transfer window By Jonny Bray It's been a dramatic summer transfer window, with top-quality players from around the world joining Premier League sides.  Even clubs tipped for relegation have targeted elite talents this summer.  But who are the window's winners and losers?  The Winners Arsenal Arsenal have strengthened their starting XI this summer, with several leading Premier League talents joining the Gunners.  In Gabriel Jesus the Gunners finally have a 20-goal-a-season striker, while in Oleksandr Zinchenko they have acquired a criminally underrated and versatile talent.  Then there's Fábio Vieira.  He's yet to make his debut for Arsenal, but all signs suggest that he'll make a significant impact on Mikel Arteta's side.  Add Matt Turner and Marquinhos to that list, and Arsenal have enjoyed the best summer of any of the top sides based on what fans have seen so far.  Crystal Palace Crystal Palace have gone ab...

Who should Arsenal go after on Transfer Deadline Day

Image
Who should Arsenal go after on Transfer Deadline Day By Jonny Bray The summer transfer window closes on 1st September at 11pm, but there is still plenty of time to get important business done. Arsenal have enjoyed their best start to a Premier League season since 2004/05, when the Gunners won their opening five games before drawing 2-2 with Sam Allardyce's iconic Bolton side at Highbury. However, there are no delusions of grandeur amongst the Arsenal faithful. This side is not ready to challenge Manchester City and Liverpool at the top of the table. But they could be if Mikel Arteta, Edu and the Arsenal board play their cards right over the next 60 hours or so. Our starting XI is good enough, but the squad lacks depth in midfield, on the wing and up front. If Arsenal sign some top-quality cover over the coming days, then there is no telling what this team could achieve. With that in mind, here are the players Arsenal should go after on Transfer Deadline Day. Youri Tielemans After b...

The 5ft 9 forward has a huge future ahead of him, and with several papers linking him with a transfer to The Emirates Stadium, it could be time for Gunners fans to get excited. But should Mikel Arteta sign Mudryk, and if he does what would the 21-year-old bring to the Spaniard’s squad?  With the end of the transfer window just around the corner, it’s time to take a closer look at this exciting wonderkid.  What would Mudryk bring to Arsenal? The latest in a long line of exciting forwards, Mudryk has everything he needs to be a success ...

Why did Nicolas Pépé fail at Arsenal?

Image
By Tom Masters Why did Nicolas Pépé fail at Arsenal?  Arsenal have been flying high this season and ahead of hosting Fulham at The Emirates sit at the very top of the Premier League table after three matches.  There is a feel good factor at the Gunners again after three commanding performances and comfortable victories over Crystal Palace, Leicester City and Bournemouth.  And with the transfer window coming to an end in just a week’s time, there is still yet more time for Mikel Arteta to recruit more talent to his already talented young squad.  But as ever, not everyone can be happy, and with rumours of Arsenal searching for another winger in the mould of Pedro Neto, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Yeremy Pino, one such player who is looking to leave is Nicolas Pépé.  It was announced on Thursday that Pépé would be heading to Nice on loan  from the Gunners, just three years after moving to North London for an eye watering £72 million from LOSC Lille.  Bu...

Transfer profile: Pedro Neto

Image
By Jonny Bray Mikel Arteta has already said that Arsenal will only go back into the transfer market this summer to sign players of the highest quality.  It's been a productive window so far, with stars like Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko hitting the ground running.  The latest name in a long list of players to have been linked with a move to The Emirates is Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Pedro Neto.  The winger is Nicolas Pépé's replacement, with the Côte d'Ivoire winger reportedly on his way back to France after struggling to settle in North London.  But what would Neto bring to this Arsenal side, and is he worth the massive £50 million price tag currently being touted around in the newspapers?  What would he bring to Arsenal?  Neto is still young at just 22, and he has the potential to become a top Premier League player.  He is already a delight to watch, having proven his quality on the ball since joining Wolves from Braga back in 2019....

Three things we learned from the latest All or Nothing episodes

Image
Three things we learned from the latest All or Nothing episodes  By Jonny Bray Episodes four, five and six of All or Nothing: Arsenal focussed on the departure of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the January transfer window and the impact it had on the squad.  Gunners fans have been saying for months that the decisions made in January may have cost the club a spot in the Champions League.  Many have also turned against Aubameyang, who clearly downed tools last season.  But few realised the impact those months had on Mikel Arteta, who took centre stage in episode six to highlight how the stress can affect those around him.  The series has been a smash hit so far, giving viewers a once-in-a-lifetime look at the inner workings of the club.  So, with that in mind, let's take a look at the three lessons learned from episodes four, five and six of Amazon Prime's All or Nothing: Arsenal. The stress of the Arsenal job took its toll on Arteta Episode six of All or Nothing...

Four AFC Bournemouth players that Arsenal should try to sign

Image
Four AFC Bournemouth players that Arsenal should try to sign By Tum Balogun  It’s not often that a club chasing the glory of Champions League football looks to bolster their ranks with additions from recently promoted Premier League sides.  But in recent years, the second tier of English football has shown itself to be a great proving ground for upcoming talent and bigger clubs - more than ever - are turning their eye to young, cheap, often British stars.  Take Liverpool’s summer move for Fulham’s Fabio Carvalho, Tottenham’s signing of Djed Spence or Aaron Ramsdale’s switch from Sheffield United last year.  Let’s assess whether AFC Bournemouth have any starlets Arsenal could look to relocate from the south coast.  Dominic Solanke The former Chelsea and Liverpool frontman finally showed the potential many had foretold in Bournemouth’s second-placed finish last term.  If not for the frankly ludicrous goal scoring record of Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrović, Solank...

Transfer Profile: Yeremy Pino

Image
By Oli Dickson Jefford Arsenal have had a strong transfer window so far, with the likes of Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko both making an impressive mark in their early days in North London. Yet, despite a perfect start to the season, it looks as if Mikel Arteta and Edu will not be resting on their laurels as they look to strengthen their squad before the window shuts. As always, the Gunners are being linked with an array of players and one of those that is attracting attention is Villarreal star Yeremy Pino. The 19-year-old could be set for a move to the Emirates within the next couple of weeks - here’s all you need to know about the teenager. Career to date Born in the Canary Islands, Pino joined Las Palmas’ youth set up in 2014 and spent three years there before moving to Villarreal. His move to the ‘Yellow Submarine’ came at the expense of Barcelona, whom he rejected in 2017, as he headed to mainland Spain to continue his burgeoning career. The forward made his first appearan...

How much will the departure of Omari Hutchinson cost Arsenal?

Image
How much will the departure of Omari Hutchinson cost Arsenal? By Will Castle   Arsenal haven’t been short of activity in the transfer market this summer. Following the arrivals of five exciting new talents to the Emirates, including established Premier League stars Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko, it would be fair to say that most Gooners are rather satisfied with the business Mikel Arteta has conducted during the transfer window. However, if there is one saga from the summer that will leave a sour taste in the mouth for fans, it would revolve around the loss of highly rated youngster Omari Hutchinson to bitter rivals Chelsea. Jumping ship to the blue side of London, the 18-year-old is now inevitably the topic of disdain among supporters, becoming the latest former Arsenal player to be branded as a ‘Judas’. However, putting emotion aside, there is still one question that needs to be asked: will the failure to keep hold of Hutchinson come back to bite the Gunners?   Yes I...
