Transfer Profile: Mykhaylo Mudryk

Ukrainian youngster Mykhaylo Mudryk has been linked with a move to Arsenal all summer.
The talented left winger has been heralded as ‘the Ukrainian Neymar’ and with good reason.
Despite a club career that has been significantly impacted by events off the pitch, Mudryk has already made his full international debut, winning five caps since making his first appearance for Shakhtar Donetsk back in 2018.
The 5ft 9 forward has a huge future ahead of him, and with several papers linking him with a transfer to The Emirates Stadium, it could be time for Gunners fans to get excited.
But should Mikel Arteta sign Mudryk, and if he does what would the 21-year-old bring to the Spaniard’s squad?
With the end of the transfer window just around the corner, it’s time to take a closer look at this exciting wonderkid.
What would Mudryk bring to Arsenal?
The latest in a long line of exciting forwards, Mudryk has everything he needs to be a success In the Premier League.
With jaw-dropping skills, an outstanding first touch and electric pace, the winger is an exciting proposition.
On the ball, he’ll certainly keep Arsenal fans entertained, and during his time at Shakhtar he has proven that he is prepared to work hard off the ball for the team.
He has a decent record in front of goal, having scored twice in 11 Premier Liga appearances last term.
And he also has experience in the UEFA Champions League, making six appearances during Shakhtar’s 2021/22 campaign where they finished bottom of Group E.
With a little bit of time, some top-quality coaching and great players around him there is no telling how high Mudryk’s ceiling could be.
Do Arsenal need another winger?
Following Nicolas Pépé’s loan move to Nice, the Gunners now require more cover on the wing.
The club have been linked with a move for the likes of Wilfried Zaha, but Mudryk would show Arsenal are thinking about the long term.
A player like Zaha would improve the squad immediately, but putting Mudryk in the first-team picture could benefit Arteta’s team for years to come. He would also be far more affordable, with a rumoured valuation of less than £10 million.
At that price tag, he would almost certainly be worth taking a gamble on.
Should Arsenal sign him?
The Gunners are the best they have been for over a decade.
This could be the season where the club finally challenge at the top of the Premier League once again.
Arteta’s side have started the new campaign with four wins from four games and have backed up results with an easy-on-the-eye brand of football.
Mudryk would be a safe bet as cover in the short term and as a potential starter further down the road.
And at an affordable price, if it doesn’t work out then it’s not the sort of signing that Arsenal supporters will look back on with regret down the line.
