Who are Arsenal likely to sign on transfer deadline day?

Arsenal are in desperate need of new blood after a disastrous start to the season.

The Gunners currently sit 20th in the Premier League, having not won a game despite spending £132 million on players this summer.

The team has been in disarray ahead of the international break but transfer deadline day is an opportunity to salvage the season.

There are several positions that Arsenal need to strengthen in, and it's still unclear if players like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette will still be at the club come the 1st of September.

Furthermore, Willian's decision to leave the club has also come as a pleasant surprise.

His decision has saved Arsenal £20 million by walking away from the club to join Brazilian side Corinthians on a free transfer.

For that reason, Arsenal could sign more than one big-name player before the window closes.

Houssem Aouar

Houssem Aouar has been linked with a move to Arsenal for nearly two years now.

Like so many players before him, Arsenal have been made to wait for his move to The Emirates while the club haggle over the deal's details.

However, if he were to sign for Arsenal, he would offer an exciting option in midfield that could complement Arsenal's current squad well.

The 23-year-old Frenchman currently plays for Lyon and is highly rated by some of the biggest clubs in Europe.

If Arsenal are serious about getting their season back on track, they will be prepared to pay the asking price and bring the French international in on a permanent basis immediately.

He would offer a different option to Emile Smith Rowe and Martin Ødegaard, who create opportunities far higher up the pitch.

In contrast, Aouar can create issues for the opposition from deeper in midfield while also pulling off a wide range of passes.

The midfielder could play a crucial role in rebuilding the club's credibility as a contender at the top of the table.

Lautaro Martínez

Lautaro Martínez has been linked with a move to Arsenal several times this summer, but recent events have made a move to North London far more likely.

The Argentine striker was unlikely to move to Arsenal when it looked like Aubameyang and Lacazette were staying put.

However, their rumoured departure could generate the funds available to make a late bid for the Inter Milan star, whose current side is stricken with financial issues.

Martinez scored 17 goals and finished with six assists in 38 appearances for Inter last season, a breakthrough campaign for the 24-year-old.

If he were to sign for Arsenal, he could suit Mikel Arteta's style of play much better than his current striking options while also being much younger and having a much higher sell-on value.

It's a transfer that would make a lot of sense for Arsenal while also creating a buzz amongst fans, which is sorely needed.

Kieran Trippier

Whether the club wants to accept it or not, this side is in desperate need of a new right-back.
Hector Bellerin is not good enough, and neither is Cedric.

With Ainsley Maitland-Niles wanting to play in midfield, Kieran Trippier is by far Arsenal's best option at right-back of the players who have been linked with a move to the club.

After years of uncertainty in that position, experience and consistency would come as a welcome change of pace, and Trippier has both in abundance.

It is, in my opinion, the position Arsenal need to strengthen in most ahead of the return of the Premier League after the international break.

Some fans will complain about his previous relationship with Tottenham and his age.

However, Arsenal have a severe lack of reliable, high-quality, experienced professionals.

We could do a lot worse than add the England international to our ranks on transfer deadline day.
